Where to go for Afternoon Tea in New York City

There are not many things we enjoy more than a good afternoon tea! Luckily there are SO many places in New York City that offer tea. Not sure about you, but having afternoon tea makes us feel so classy and elegant. Some are not worth your money, while others, you could sit at while sipping tea and enjoying scones for hours.

Click on each location and it will take you right to our TikTok review or to the restaurant's website so you can see what to get!

Our Favorites

Ladurée

Ladurée (SoHo, Manhattan)

You don’t have to go to Paris to get this stunning French high tea. We think the garden is one of the best settings to enjoy tea in the city and the pastries were unforgettable. You even get extra macarons to take home with you! For 2 people it’s $130, make sure to get the cherry blossom latte if it’s in season and ask for the Ispahan pastry and cherry blossom religieuse on your tea tower!

Tea & Sympathy

Tea & Sympathy (Greenwich Village, Manhattan)

This is our favorite tea in the city, and it’s also the most authentic. It’s in the West Village, but once inside you’ll feel as though you’re in England. They have 3 tiers… $45 for 1 person, $85 for 2 people, or $125 for 3 people. All their food is delicious! Our favorites are their scones, sticky toffee pudding cupcake, and cucumber finger sandwiches. Their other non tea offerings are delicious, like the traditional sausage roll. If you can’t get enough they have a cute store, plus a fish & chips shop right next door.

Prince Tea House

Prince Tea House (Locations all over Queens, Manhattan & Brooklyn)

They have locations all over New York, Philly, and Jersey, so this isn’t a hard reservation to get, but they are serving an excellent tea. You can order tea for 1 person for $35, for 2 people for $65, or for 3 people for $97.50. Their finger sandwiches are more unique than what you typically get at other teas. We also had to order some of their signature desserts. The brown sugar boba crepe cake and thick fruit toast are worth saving room for.

King’s Carriage House

King’s Carriage House (Upper East Side, Manhattan)

This is one of the more affordable afternoon teas we’ve found. When we went it cost less than $30 for one, but it looks like their prices have gone up. Having tea here in a duplex decorated with Old English flair feels very ‘old New York’. The portions are on the smaller side, but the food’s still good. They also have a vegetarian tea menu for all our herbivores.

Lady Mendl’s (Gramercy Park, Manhattan)

If you’re looking for the same vibe as The Plaza or Bergdorf’s this is where you should go. You get SO much food here and it’s so cozy inside. It’s located in a Gramercy brownstone that was built in 1834 and its entrance is so concealed you may miss it. Theirs is $78 a person, but it comes with a soup or salad, tea sandwiches, scones, crepe cake, and petit fours. Of all the teas we’ve tried this one left us the most full!

Alice’s Tea Cup

Alice’s Tea Cup (Lincoln Square & Upper East Side, Manhattan)

They have locations on the Upper East & Upper West Sides. Their tea is $77 for two people. They serve some funkier teas like a chocolate chai or their amazing stardust blend. It’s a blend of lavender, rose petals, mango & more!

The Palm Court at The Plaza Hotel (Midtown, Manhattan)

The Plaza serves what is probably the most popular afternoon tea in New York, but it’s just not worth the money. It definitely use to be better, but now at $118, the food they’re serving isn’t worth the price point. We think the only time this is worth the visit is if you’re taking a kid who’s obsessed with the Eloise books. Their Children’s Eloise Tea is only offered if you’re younger than 12 years old and is still pretty steep at $90 per child.

BG Restaurant at Bergdorf Goodman (Midtown, Manhattan)

Bergdorf Goodman is a stunning department store, so it’s a huge bummer that the food served at their afternoon tea isn’t tastier. It’s $60 per person which is definitely much cheaper than The Plaza, but theirs is also lacking. They served our tea not steeped enough and some of the sandwiches came on stale bread.

Russian Tea Room (Midtown, Manhattan)

We actually love the Russian Tea Room for dinner, but feel their tea isn’t as good as some of our other favorites. This is such a gorgeous restaurant, and we encourage you to go another time because it’s definitely worth it. However, we feel responsible for helping you get your money’s worth, and afternoon tea here is worth skipping. If you don’t want to listen to us, it’s $95 per person, but don’t worry… we forgive you.
