HONORABLE MENTIONS
Apollo Bagels - While not a bakery, their hand-rolled sourdough bagels are impossible to ignore. They’re served open faced and we’re obsessed with the sesame bagel with jam & butter. Watch our review of the original East Village location and their newer West Village location!
The Pastry Box - Technically a 2023 opening, but we discovered their chocolate chip cookies this year, and they’re absolutely insane. Thin and soo buttery, it almost tastes like caramel.

OUR TOP 10 NEW BAKERIES IN NYC FOR 2024
#10 Salswee in Flatiron - This French-Asian bakery is whimsical and delicious, serving pastries shaped like fruits, mushrooms, and more. It’s super fun and the case display is so gorgeous to look at.
#9 Cafe W in Flushing - Over in Flushing, Queens, it’s a French-Korean cafe went viral for their o-nigiri shaped croissants. We loved so many of their other pastries though, so go for the other pastries and not just the nigiris! Watch our review.
#8 Bánh by Lauren in Two Bridges - You may have seen their bright green pastries online. Lauren opened this Vietnamese shop and lots of her pastries are pandan flavored. The pandan honeycomb cake and pandan coffee cake were our favorites.
#7 Elbow Bread in Chinatown - This one was highly anticipated and comes from the Court Street Grocers team, it’s a Jewish-American bakery with a lot of Jewish influencer (which we love) like onion bialys, knishes, and challah honey buns. The sweet potato pretzels that sell out fast are the best bite to get! Watch our review.
#6 Miolin Bakery in Park Slope - Just opened in September and seems to be flying under the radar, we found them after seeing their gorgeous strawberry croissant online. They’re doing everything right and are it’s a really incredible neighborhood bakery. Their sandwiches that get made fresh daily and put out around 10am are also amazing.
#5 Mary O’s Irish Soda Bread Shop in East Village - We’re so lucky we got to meet Mary O just weeks after opening her new scone shop. She serves her family recipe soda bread scones topped with Irish butter and her mom’s blackberry jam. She’s so authentically Irish and such an amazing woman to support. It doesn’t hurt that her scones are fire. Watch our viral review!
#4 Thea Bakery in Fort Greene - Thea Bakery opened after its parent restaurant Theodora opened this year. Similarly to the restaurant, every bite is incredible. Watch our review.
#3 Tall Poppy in Chelsea - A super fresh face to NYC’s pastry scene comes from Nina, an Australian chef. Tall Poppy was literally the butteriest croissant we’ve had and all the pastries were just simply delicious. Watch our review here!
#2 Somedays Bakery in Astoria - Somedays comes from a Librae Bakery alum—and we’re not surprised, considering Librae was our favorite NYC bakery two years ago. The cheddar pretzel twist and spinach escargot were insane. This spot is worth an early wake-up call since they get snagged up really fast. Watch our review.
#1 Hani’s Bakery in East Village - Our top spot goes to Hani’s Bakery by Miro Uskokovic, formerly of Gramercy Tavern. Miro is being called the Willy Wonka of pastries and he’s specializing in American-style cakes and desserts. The pastries are a mix of nostalgia with elevation and overall just fantastic. The cinnamon roll, cookie, potato knish, everything just WOW. Well done Miro, you’ve earned the spot. Watch our review with a small interview with the “Willy Wonka of pastries!”
There you have it: the bakeries that defined 2024.
