2024 Top International Bites

We traveled a ton this year and ate our way through France, Italy, and London. Here are our top 10 bites from our unforgettable international adventures!

Top 10 Things We Ate

#10 Gelato from Cremeria Santo Stefano in Bologna, Italy - We walked a solid 25 minutes to get gelato from Cremeria Santo Stefano, and let us tell you—it was so worth it. Creamy, dreamy perfection in every bite. Pro tip: don’t skip the scoop of panna on top—it takes whatever flavor you choose to the next level. It was also one of our Top 10 Bites in Italy.

#9 Cheeseburger from La Renommée in Paris, France - This burger is brought to you by the Hogsalt team, the masterminds behind our favorite West Village spot, 4 Charles. And yes, the burger here is every bit as amazing—juicy, flavorful, and totally worth the hype. But trust us, don’t stop there. Their linguine is also an absolute must-try. See our review here.

La Renommée

#8 Lyonnaise salad from Bouchon Comptoir Brunet in Lyon, France - A classic Lyonnaise salad typically includes frisée lettuce, lardons (crispy bacon), a poached egg, croutons, and a tangy Dijon vinaigrette—and we couldn’t get enough of this one. Lyon is often called the 'world capital of gastronomy,' and after visiting this year, we can see why. Watch how to spend a perfect 24 hours in Lyon here.

#7 Homemade pasta from Villa Le Corti in Tuscany, Italy - The private cooking class we took at Villa Le Corti in Tuscany was such an amazing experience. We can’t recommend it enough! Our instructor, Eduardo, was awesome—super talented and made everything so much fun. We made a bunch of different homemade pasta dishes, and honestly, every single one was a top bite. It was one of the best parts of our trip! See everything we ate in Tuscany.

#6 Baguette from Boulangerie place Monge - Marie Boucherot in Beaune, France - We had some of the best bread of our lives at Boulangerie Place Monge - Marie Boucherot in Beaune. Pro tip: grab a baguette and turn it into a classic Jambon Beurre—layer it with high-quality ham and a generous spread of butter for the ultimate French sandwich. It’s simple, delicious, and the perfect way to enjoy this incredible bread. See how we spent 36 hours in Beaune here.

#5 Tortellini in cream sauce from Trattoria Cammillo in Florence, Italy - We’re so grateful that Julia studied abroad in Florence this year because it led us straight to Trattoria Cammillo, where we discovered their absolutely perfect tortellini. It’s the kind of dish that makes you appreciate the true art of Italian cooking. We’re so glad her time in Florence brought us to this gem!

#4 Butter chicken and garlic naan from Gymkhana in London, UK - #4 is a tie between the butter chicken and garlic naan from Gymkhana, but let’s be honest—these two dishes pair so perfectly together, it’s hard to imagine enjoying one without the other. It’s not the easiest reservation to snag, but trust us, this two-Michelin-star Indian restaurant is absolutely worth the effort. See our review here.

Gymkhana

#3 Croissant from La maison D’isabelle in Paris, France - The croissant at La Maison D'Isabelle in Paris is so good, it turned Madison into a full-on croissant addict. She couldn’t get enough of the perfectly flaky, buttery layers, and honestly, who could blame her? She went back four times for it. Four! Checkout our top bakeries in Paris here.

La Maison D'Isabelle

#2 Florentine Steak from La Giostra in Florence, Italy - Another gem we tried when visiting Julia in Florence was La Gisotra. Yes, it’s definitely a bit touristy, but it’s worth every bit of the hype. The pear ravioli was delicious—perfectly sweet and savory—but it was their Florentine steak that we couldn’t stop thinking about. See our review here.

#1 Green bolognese lasagna from NOI in Bologna, Italy - Noi feels like such a hidden gem, tucked away inside a marketplace in Bologna. We popped in right before they closed for a quick snack, and we’re so glad we did. Sara had to try the green lasagna, and it ended up being the best dish we had abroad this year! The layers of pasta were perfectly delicate, and the flavors were unreal—rich, comforting, and absolutely unforgettable.
