Ultimate Boston Pizza Guide
Pizza: a universal love affair. Let’s face it, it’s rare for someone to not enjoy pizza. It’s a perfect food. Whether it's a New York slice, a Detroit style square, or New Haven thin crust… we want it. Crispy, gooey, and always hard to turn down – pizza knows how to throw a slice of joy into any occasion.
That’s why, no matter where we are, we’re searching for the best pizza. We believe we know a thing or two about pizza and we’ve shared the best of NYC and New Haven, and now after hunting for months, here is the best of Boston. We’ve broken them into two categories. The first are the classic’s… these are the simple, no frills, pies. The second are specialty pizzas, which is more fun, creative, and unique.
THE CLASSICS
Ernesto’s (North End)
Their pizza is consistently amazing and reminds us the most of a New York City slice
Pizzeria Regina (North End)
We love Pizzeria Regina for their famous thin crust brick oven pies. They've expanded over the years, but nothing hits quite like a visit to their original North End location
Bardo’s Bar Pizza (South Boston)
Massachusetts is known for its bar pizzas, especially on the South Shore. But if you're looking for the best bar pizza in Boston, it's at Bardo’s. Their classic is great, but if you want to get crazy definitely try their dill pickles or the sweet dreams.
Santarpio’s (East Boston)
A Boston staple since opening in 1903, which is still owned and operated by the Santarpio family. They are also known for their sausage and peppers. Their pizza reminds us of Luna Pizza for our CT locals.
Galleria Umberto (North End)
It's cash only and serving Sicilian square pizza in what feels like a dining hall and is only open for lunch.
THE SPECIALTIES
Coppa Enoteca (South End)
We LOVE the Soppressata pie from Coppa. It's topped with Mott's spicy, dry aged salami, honey and garlic.
Night Shift Brewing (West End)
This place is so fun! Get The Shiftee here. It's a Detroit style pizza with jalapenos, salami, ricotta, and hot honey. Plus, they can make all their pizzas gluten free.
Bar Pallino (Back Bay)
Bar Pallino is a speakeasy under Faccia a Faccia, another favorite of ours. It has a small menu, but they’re serving this GIANT grandma slice that comes on a perfect huge piece of focaccia.
Waypoint (Cambridge)
The Whitefish pizza from Waypoint is next level. If you’re someone who loves lox on their bagels, you’ll love this pie.
Bardo’s Bar Pizza (South Boston)
Yes, we have Bardo’s on here twice, but we can’t get enough of their dill pickle bar pie. Don’t knock it til you try it.
Josephine (Somerville)
We LOVE everything Josephine makes, truly, but their Cacio Y Pepe pizza is so wonderfully done.
Source (Cambridge)
If you love pepperoni, this is the best one in the Boston area, or even maybe the state of Massachusetts. It’s literally overflowing with roni.
BONUS
June Bug (Somerville)
This new spot to Somerville opened at the end of 2023 and really impressed us. It comes from the same team as Field and Vine.
Si Cara (Cambridge)
Canotto style pies and natural wine… the perfect combo. Also, get their white bean dip.
Joe’s Pizza (Cambridge)
This is a top NYC slice shop for us and they recently opened in Harvard Square.
SKIP
Coquette (Seaport)
Their thin crust pizza is like a bland cracker. Overall, we think Coquette is overrated. It’s so expensive and the food is average.
Tall Ship (East Boston)
Don’t get us wrong, Tall Ship is SO fun, but all their food is fine and can be skipped. Their pizza was very soggy.
Eva (Back Bay)
We tried their four cheese pizza which was pretty lackluster, as was most of the things we tried. There are better restaurants on Newbury St.
