Ultimate NYC Pizza Guide

We’ve been on a quest to find the best pizza in NYC. Here’s where you can go for a classic NYC slice, grandma pie, or the best calzone in NYC!

Our Top 5

Lucali

Lucali (Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn)

There's a reason Jay-Z and Beyonce frequently fly to Brooklyn just to dine here. Get a cheese pie, a pepper and roni pie, and a calzone with garlic. It's a tough table to get, we recommend going on a weekday around 4pm to put your name in!

F&F

F&F Pizzeria (Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn)

Started by two well known NYC chefs, Frank and Frank. You can't go wrong with their classic cheese pie... it's *chef's kiss* but their slices are exceptional. Love the brown butter sage with sausage and they are making a killer clam pie.

Joe & Pats (Staten Island & East Village, Manhattan)

Oh how we love the pizza here (it's our top 5) and they have SO many options. What to get: tri-pie and vodka pie. Also you'd have no idea their cauliflower crust was made of cauliflower.

L&B Spumoni Gardens (Gravesend, Brooklyn)

We love L&B and can’t wait for their dumbo location to open so it’s closer. The thick Sicilian crust is rich but the sweet sauce makes it delicious. Get the creamsicle ice cream.

John's of Bleecker Street

John's of Bleecker Street

John's of Bleecker Street (Greenwich Village, Manhattan)

A special old school spot that is indeed ICONIC. Coal fired pies are where it’s at and get a calzone.

Bonus

Sally’s

Sally's Apizza (New Haven, CT)

We KNOW it's controversial, but we think New Haven has better pizza than NYC. New York still has amazing pizza, but Sally's is where we go when we want the best slice.

Slice Shops

Joe’s Pizza (Original location Greenwich Village & locations all over NYC)

There’s a reason Joe’s is on every pizza list, it’s because it’s delicious, simple, and no frills. We like that. It’s not the best slice in the world but it gets the job done.

Made in New York Pizza (UWS, West Village, Midtown, Manhattan)

This place is great. Very straight forward slices but with some fun toppings. Love the vodka slice and they have a few locations.

Scarr’s

Scarr's Pizza (Lower East Side, Manhattan)

Rustic LES pizzeria with slices and a line. Get the hotboi that comes with pepperoni, jalapeños, and mike's hot honey.

Best Pizza (Williamsburg, Brooklyn)

Love this Williamsburg joint for their cozy shop, wood fired pies and they even have a grandma slice

Marinara

Marinara Pizza (locations all over Manhattan)

BIG fans of Marinara Pizza. It’s our go to pizza delivery not just for pizza but salads and chicken parm too. MVP (marinara, vodka, pesto) is a must order.

L'Industrie Pizzeria (Williamsburg, Brooklyn)

This elevated slice shop with some of the best dough and toppings.  They even make sandwiches and soft serve. Don’t leave without trying the burrata slice.

Paulie Gee's Slice Shop (Greenpoint, Brooklyn)

Get 1 slice of freddy prinze and 1 slice of hellboy and you'll be good to go!

Simò Pizza (Meatpacking District, Manhattan)

Madison lived above the Meatpacking location for years and her building is filled with the smells of their neapolitan style pizza. They offer one pie with pesto, cacio e Pepe, and marinara but they are very good.

Luigi's Pizza (Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn)

A little further out but if you’re in the area it’s a good slice option. Old school, no frills

Creative Pizzas

Rubirosa (Nolita, Manhattan)

Promise us you'll get the tie-dye pie!!!

Mama's TOO! (Upper West Side, Manhattan)

Really creative slices but comes with a line, be prepared to wait or order ahead/delivery.

Emmett’s On Grove

Emmett’s On Grove (West Village, Manhattan)

Obsessed with their tavern style Chicago pies from the same team as Emmett’s in Soho. This is the perfect cozy dinner spot.

Una Pizza Napoletana (Lower East Side, Manhattan)

Rated #1 pizza in 2022! The fluffiest pizza dough we’ve tried and worth it if you can grab a Resy.

L'antica Pizzeria da Michele Taverna and Cafe (West Village, Manhattan)

Pizza from Naples, Italy that was featured in the movie Eat, Pray, Love! It’s really good and they have more than just pizza.

Roberta's (Bushwick & Domino Park, Brooklyn)

A staple in NYC for years, especially their Bee Sting pie, which they were one of the first people to put honey on their pizzas. Cozy and worth a visit.

Posto NYC Thin Crust Pizza (Gramercy Park, Manhattan)

Same team as Vezzo, Tappo, Spunto - easy simple pizzas with VERY thin crust. Get the fun-guy pie.

Leo (Williamsburg, Brooklyn)

This place is fire. The dough is wonderful and the toppings to pair work well. Apps and soft serve also are worth a mention…

Speedy Romeo (Clinton Hill, Brooklyn)

Very creative pizzas, we’re sad the LES location closed but their meatballs and wings are also good.

Krispy Pizza (Dyker Heights, Brooklyn)

We actually haven’t been here yet but only have heard amazing things and need the tie die pie!

Giuseppina's (South Slope, Brooklyn)

Owned by the brother of the owner of Lucali (our favorite pizza in NYC). Their pizza is still pretty good and the calzone is almost identical. Lucali is still #1 for us but a good option if you’re nearby.

Andrew Bellucci's Pizzeria (Astoria, Queens)

This is the correct Bellucci’s pizza (there are two, long legal battle and long story) but the vodka pie and vodka pasta are what you should get.

Patsy's Pizzeria (UWS & Turtle Bay, Manhattan)

Only go to the OG location or it’s not worth it but the original is great. Simple pies like the classic and white are what to order.

Places to Skip

Prince Street Pizza (Nolita, Manhattan)

Nah, bread is too comically fluffy and not for us! Lines are too long. Prepare to wait up to an hour in line outside on weekends.

Lombardi's (Nolita, Manhattan)

Sure it’s the first pizza in NYC but it’s not the best and not worth trying.

Di Fara Pizza (Midwood, Manhattan)

Greasy, not crispy, and not for us or worth the trip to Midwood.

Artichoke Basille's Pizza (locations all over)

If you want a stomach ache, get the artichoke slice…

Pasquale Jones (Nolita)

This place is overpriced and mostly pizza dough with little toppings.
